Hello Antony,

I have been using the 1901 united kingdom census (www.pro.gov.uk) to research my family. My grandmothers father was Charles H Axham, aged 47 in 1901, born in Clerkenwell, London. Wife Margaret W, aged 36, born in Bethesda, Wales. Children Charles D, Annie, Hugh, Augusta (my grandmother), Margaret, Reis. The original document was digitised incorrectly, so the name is shown as Atham on the website. I would be interested to know if there is any connection with your family. My grandmother always maintained that the name was derived from the name of the tutor of Queen Elizabeth I - Asham, but I have never checked this.

Peter Brien.
