Axford Family Genealogy Forum

Most US Axfords would have appeared first as a result of one family emigrations from the UK. It should not be hard to make the link using the birth certificates of the oldest persons as they arrived. However there is a strong group that settled in New Jersey and spread to Michigan and Canada - they are listed to seom extent in the "small" book you mention.
You can find ouy a lot about Axfords who have authored books by looking at the Abebooks website - they advertise scores - even hundres of them, including Joseph Mackey Axford. Someone with a little biy of time should try to draw up a list with titles. I have a small pamphlet dated around 1700 written by John Axford of Laycock - so they go back a long way.
One needs to distinguish between the "Wiltshire" and "Cornwall-Devon" Axfords. They are not the same family but can be distinguished to some extent by forenames as well as birth place.
A few uS Axfords wewre poiticians - I seem to recall a Mayor of Philadelphia - I have the information some place but cannot find it just now.
