Hi, We are looking for a mysterious daughter of the Axfords, whom we believe could be John Axford II of Oxford, New Jersey and his wife, Abigail Hunt. She is mysterious because she has disappeared from history. Poof!, and she is gone! There is neither a record of her birth, nor of her death, but there IS evidence she existed. We believe she was possibly born in 1759, because John Axford II and Abigail were married in 1758, and there is no record of a child until 1760, when Jonathan Axford was born. Room there for an unrecorded daughter. No mention of her in John's will of 1809, either, but it is possible she died before then, and so wouldn't be mentioned. She married a John Park in abt. 1778. We have put this list of children together for her and John, not because we can prove it, but because they were all living at the right time, in the right place, which was the area around Green's Pond (Now Mountain Lake) and the Pequest River, in Sussex Co., now Warren Co. N.J. 1. Jonathan Axford Park, b. abt 1779, md. an Elizabeth, and they later moved to Ohio. 2. Johanna Park, b. abt 1779, md. Peter Banghart abt 1800 3. Mary Park, b. abt 1780, md. Andrew Banghart,10 Sep 1800. The Banghart family records state she was from the Old Park farm by Green's Pond. 4. Nathan Park, b. abt 1781, md. Achsah Fleming. They also later moved to Ohio. 5. Margaret Park, b. 26 Jul 1783, md. Rev. George Banghart 12 Jan 1803. Died 5 Jul 1845 Warren Co. N.J. 6. John Park, b. 1791, md. Susanna Green in Jul 1818 Died 21 May 1835 in Warren Co. N.J. Jonathan Axford and John were administrators of a John Park's estate who died in 1828. From that, we are thinking he was their father. There was no will, just an inventory. We think our mystery lady must have been an Axford and the wife of this John Park who died in 1828, because of the son named Jonathan Axford Park, although we have no proof of that either. We do have a family legend from one branch of the family that says their progenitor was a brother-in-law to (I don't know if it is Banghart in the family story, or Bangharts (plural), but if 3 sisters married 3 brothers, it would be more than one.) I have looked and looked through the Axford's and can't seem to find anyone that might fit, except that there may be a possible non-recorded daughter of John II and Abigail. Everyone else is too old or too young or too married to someone else in the same time frame. Did she actually exist, or was she someone else, and they just liked the Axford's, and so named a child after them? Seems unlikely, but possible. Is there anyone out there who may have some stories or legends of records in their families that might confirm or disprove any of this information? Thanks, Elaine Notify Administrator about this message?
