Hello,
I am trying to establish the true birth name of my paternal grandfather (supposedly HORACE JAMES AXFORD). According to family legend, Horace was orphaned at a very young age and raised by a woman related to him only through marriage, named WILSON, a name Horace used for the rest of his life. Your Henry Wilson Axford sounds like he might be a connection - perhaps the Wilson was his mother's maiden name?
Horace was born 4 Oct 1888 in London - emigrated to Canada c. 1903.
Any information you may have on a possible connection would be most appreciated.
