Dear Madeline, Sarah Ann Axford, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Axford, was baptised on 6/11/1808. Thomas married Sarah Watts (Banns 1/1/1798). Sarah Ann married Thomas Gale (1/2/1831). There were also Emily (bap. 1/11/1798), Eleanor (Bap. 1/2/1801), Thomas (bap. 2/7/1804) and Elizabeth (bap. 25/12/1810). Emily married William Watts (Banns 28/9/1820). Eleanor married william Hawkins (Bans 110/7/1820). Elizabeth married Frederick Rolf of Uphaven (Banns 19/7/1828). Thomas married Sarah Ann Col...? (Banns 23/11/1830). [Note that this is a second Thomas + Sarah.] Thomas (aged 59)was buried on 4/11/1829. If this is the correct Thomas he was baptised on 3/10/1770, son of William and Sarah Meadow of Imber (m.9/5/1764). Thomas had brothers and sisters: Betty (13/3/1765. d. 12/11/1783?)), William (1/10/1766), Sarah (13/11/1768, m. Thomas Perrett of Market Lavington 22/5/1792)), Sage (23/5/1773). William seems to have been born 21/3/1725, son of James and Elizabeth. He died aged 63 on 22/6/1788. There is a coroners report: 'suddely died in the field where he was working, 6 miles, one pound, four shillings and sixpence.' Sarah died aged 63 on 22/10/1797. James Axford was baptised on 18/11/1703, son of William Axford and Elizabeth Taylor. He died on 10/1 1761. Elizabeth his wife died on 3/11/1728. There is no marriage in G-C - it must have taken place elsewhere. There is just one brother, John (baptised 24/2/1727). William Axford, son of Henry and Joan, was baptised on 24/2/1677. There were brothers Henry (16/2/1673, d. 9/1/1681), Robert (7/3/1674), Roger (20/4/1679, d. 4/9/1685) and John (4/12/1681) and sisters Sarah (22/7/1683), Elizabeth (25/4/1686)and Deborah (16/2/1689). Joan, a widow, was buried on 23/12/1729, and evidently thers. There are three possibilities for Henry - they died in 1696, 1711 and 1717. There is no sign of a burial for Sarah (Watts) - she might have married again, e.g. Sarah Axford married John Mattock on 9/11/1751. Joan, widow, left a will (Arch.Sarum) proved on 15/5/1730 (90 pounds). It mentions her daughters Joan Mattock (m. Robert), Grace Saunders (m. Gordon), Elizabeth Bartlett (m.William Bartlett 2/4/1711), grandsons Thomas Andrews and William Bartlett, son-in-law John Andrews (m. Mary, 21/5/1695) and grand-daughter Elizabeth Bartlett. This is worth reading! Note that the 'famous' Isaac married secondly Mary Bartlett of Great Cheverell, possibly a daughter or even grnd-daughter of William and Elizabeth. That is all I seem to have. Happy New Year and the best of luck with it, Ian. Notify Administrator about this message?
