I was delighted to receive your information. A letter from a member of the Curtis family, also descended from Isaac and Mary also mentioned an 'influential person' of high rank but was timorous about it being the Prince of Wales. Would be interested to hear more about your line of descent. You are quite right Jean Plaidy wrote 'The Prince and the Quaker' which is about this story. Have many Axford contacts if you would like them. Please e mail privately for contact.
Do you have any idea what became of Isaac after his marriage to Hannah in December, 1753 and his marriage to Mary Bartlett on 3rd December, 1759? One wonders what information he might have had which led him to give his status as 'widower' on his marriage bond. I am still intrigued by the grave of Anne Axford in Great Cheverell, 1758, who I cannot link with anyone in a positive manner. Knowing what Isaac's whereabouts were could be helpful at this time. Also, do you know of any Freemasonry connections. The memorial in Erlestoke church of another Isaac Axford, a relative of your Isaac has symbols used by freemasons. A theory has been put forward by another Axford living in New Zealand that when Hannah became involved with the 'influential person' it would have been the masonic connection which brought Isaac into the picture. I have problems with that idea but, until, one knows the absolute truth all these ideas have to be given credence.
Do you have any information about the 'court case' against the descendants of Isaac following his death in 1816 and brought by Bartlett relatives? I have never found any record of it.
