My mother's last name is also Avina. Her father's name was Ponciano Avina and her grandfather's name was Juan Avina. However, my family comes from the state of Michoacan in Mexico. I have researched the background of the last name of Avina. I have found limited information, I did find that this name can be traced back to an area in Galicia Spain. The last name Avina was given to those who lived or worked near the Vineyards, Las Vinas. I found a Jewish Rabi that carries that last name. We are so intertwined with all people of the world. My grandpa was so white and had eyes blue as the sky. I always say that we are not Mexican, we are Mixican. You never know what you are going to get.
