My dad Paulino Aviņa was born in Durango, his mother Antonia Aviņa, her parents Manuel and Belen Aviņa (she kept her maiden name) were also born there. I vaguely remember them talking about coming from eastern Zacatecas. Also, I have heard that the family name originates from Avignon, France, or possibly from Italy (from the word vineyard or viņa). There are a TON of Aviņa out there...
