Laura ‘Dotty’ Avey, 90
Former Ossian resident, Laura “Dotty” L. Norbeck Wehage Avey, 90, of Decatur, died at 12:26 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at Woodcrest Nursing Center in Decatur.
Born in Rockford, Ohio to Benjamin and Clora (Shaffer) Norbeck on Sept. 1, 1917, she initially married Herman Wehage; he preceded her in death in 1965, and she then married Glen Avey; he survives and lives in Ossian.
Mrs. Avey was a homemaker and had formerly worked in clothing retail sales and also at the family-run bakery in Delphos, Ohio. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ossian, where she belonged to the Ladies Aide and Christian fellowship.
Other surviving relatives include one son, John (Susan) Wehage of Van Wert, Ohio; one daughter, Clora (David) Meyer of Avilla; four step-children, David G. Avey of Magley, Donald H. (Sandra) Avey of Ossian, Joan M. Nixon of Fort Wayne and Janet L. (Richard) Reinhart of Brownsburg; six grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Avey was also preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home and Crematory in Van Wert, Ohio. Calling hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial is at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
