Hello Colleen,

How wonderful to receive your reply. I've tried answering by email but am having trouble with my server. Then I posted a message & the internet disconnected & I lost it---it just hasn't been my day! I was so frustrated because I am so excited about receiving your reply & anxious to connect with you. Even though I've always lived in Batesville, AR which is about 45 mins. from Big Springs, AR where the Avey family lived & lives, I never knew any of them or nothing about them until I began my research. I was the only child of Roy Dale who was the only child of Sterling & Sarah Lou Vada McGee. The "mystery that nobody talks about it is a murder!" When Sterling & Vada got married, her Uncle & 2 neighbors came after her. Sterling's brother Floyd shot & killed her Uncle & another man. All of these families had been neighbors for years so it was a real tragedy for all the families. Sterling & Vada stayed married awhile & my father was born & then they had a very bitter divorce.

I'm afraid to make this message too long in fear that I'll get disconnected again & have to start over. Please send me your address but not by email (send it on this forum) since I don't know when mine will be straightened out. I will mail you all the info I have. I have one picture of STerling & 3 of his sons that was taken after he & Mirle moved west. It was given to one of my great uncles. It is a real treasure of mine. Even though I've never had the AVey name or knew any of them, I know that through blood I am an Avey. It's always been a blank in my life. I will go into more detail by mail. (I'm starting you a letter tonight when I get home & will start gathering info to mail as soon as I get your address.) I also have a copy of the extensive research that has been done on Sterling's mother Martha Belle Freeman. Sterling is buried at Big Springs, AR with a double tombstone with Mirle's name on it. Sterling's parents are also buried there. Many Aveys still live in the area. Big Springs is a small community near Mountain View, AR, in the beautiful hills of Arkansas. Colleen, I want to share all the info I have & would love to know more about Sterling & Mirle's children & their families. But please stress to all of them that are interested: I do NOT want to bring up all bad memories for Mirle or her family. I just want to make contact with you and answer any questions I can. Also, if you know Mirle's parents' names I would be glad to see what I can find there. The Lawrence line is an extensive one in that area. (As matter of fact my boss' mother was a Lawrence & I've already done some research for them!). I'm really looking forward to hearing from you. My address is 330 17th St. #16, Batesville, AR 72501, Phone 870-698-1261. You could also fax your address to my office fax 870-793-9248. I wouldn't want to tie the fax up for other things but as soon as I get your address I'll mail the info. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Nancy S. Baxter
