Civil War General Robert Avery NY descendants
My birth name was Robert Avery, but I was given up for adoption; I only recently learned of the name (I always knew I was adopted though). I look so much like General Robert Avery that I'm conducting 'reverse genealogical' research. I was born in Brooklyn and the Generals family lived in Brooklyn at least in the 1910 to 1930 period (based on the US Census).
I believe my birth father was born in New York City in 1938 (maybe January 1939). I found three men born during that time, Stephen G (4/22/38) whom I've eliminated, John M (8/20/38) and my main focus Harry B (5/10/38). I reviewed a Brooklyn telephone directory from the period of my birth and a Harry Avery lived only several blocks from the hospital of my birth. John was much further.
Looking at Avery men in the Generals family, only three were at the right age to be the father of these men. The number one candidate is Robert P Avery born in 1909 in Brooklyn (Kings). One man I eliminated is Theodore M Jr. who seems to have been still single in 1942. One man is Marcy born in Brooklyn in 1903 (he would have been 35 years old in 1938).
What I need is more information on either Harry B or John M, both born 1938. If I can't link them to me, then I need to eliminate them so I can search elsewhere. Marriage records don't become public for 50 years after the big day, so I still have to wait about a year. The 1940 Census isn't out until 2012.
I'm also trying to connect Harry B and John M with Robert P and Marcy (or could it be Marcey?). I'd sure appreciate any ideas you have or maybe we can have our DNA tested:)
Thank you!
