Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery is located on US 431, about 14 miles north of LaFayette, AL.(Between Stroud and Welch, AL.)
Green B. Avery, 14 Oct 1850-15 Mar 1919, married Nancy Cordelia “Cordie” Radney. His brother was William Richard Avery, 8 Oct 1848-17 Feb 1914, an Elder in the Primitive Baptist Church at Mt. Pisgah.
William R. Avery was 2 years old and in the household of John and Elizabeth Avery in the 1850 Chambers Co AL Census. He was born in AL.All others in the household were born in GA.The enumerations were: John Avery, 39; Elizabeth, 39; Needham, 10; John 8; James, 6; Anthony H., 4; and. William, 2.Based on this census, the family moved to AL from GA between 1846 and Oct 1848.
Next household was that of Green B. Burnett, 23, born in GA and his 16-year-old wife, Eliza, also born in GA.The name was spelled Avrea on the Marriage License. John Avery was the 2nd bondsman.
I assume that Green B. Avery was named in honor of Green B. Burnett, his older sister’s husband.Green Avery was born two years after Eliza’s marriage to Burnett.
