I found an 1820 Rutherford Co., TN census listing for a William Averitt as follows: 1820 Census William Averett; 1 _ _ 1 _ _ 1 _ _ 1 1 _ 1 1 male under 10 1 male 16-26 1 female under 10 1 female 26-45 1 female over 45 1 person engaged in ag Source Citation: Year: 1820; Census Place: Murfreesboro, Rutherford, Tennessee; Roll M33_124; Page: 188; Image: 114. I'm exploring the idea that this could be William Averitt b. abt. 1790 in VA - prob died by abt 1838 in Humphreys Co., TN that m. Lucy LNU, b.abt 1788 in VA and died after 1850 Census in Humphreys Co., TN. I don't find a William Averitt (w/various spellings) in Rutherford Co. in 1830. There are 2 Williams whose last names could be misspellings of Averitt but after looking at the actual images, I don't that's the case. So it appears that William Averittleft Rutherford Co. after the 1820 Census. I find a William Averitt on the 1830 Humphreys Co., TN census and I'm pretty sure that this is my William and family. I am thinking that these may be the same families as the ages and known children match up and both listings show that the household had an older female, probably the mother of William or Lucy. Rutherford Co. is just east of Nashville and is a logical stop on a migration path from VA to Humphreys Co., TN. I've gone through the various Averitt message boards and I haven't found anyone posting about a William Averitt in Rutherford Co.TN. But before I dig any deeper I thought I'd see if anyone out there can already put this William with a family line. I descend from William and Lucy's son Thomas, who m. Letha Brown. A son, William Gordon Averitt m. M. M. Williams and their daughter Hettie m. Jefferson Lee Pardue whose daughter Mary Elizabeth Pardue m. Robert Ernest Reid Pitt. They are my grandparents.
