Yes, I need to look carefully at the dates again because it appears that I've confused some of them. Anyway, just to let you know, I am the great grandaughter of Joseph Mortimer Cockrell. He and Donie Averitt had a son, Averitt Benjamin Cockrell (b. 1909), who was my grandfather.
I did find of photo at my parents home of a Mr and Mrs Louis Averitt, with a young son (age 2?), Louis Jr. It is a fine old photo, which appears to have been taken right around the turn of the century. Mrs Averitt is dressed in somber, upper class Victorian attire. I'm confused by this photo because I see no mention of a Louis Averitt Jr born to Louis Averitt around 1900. Most likely these were among the Averitts who came to Red River County, Texas, since the photo was in my grandfather Averitt Cockrell's possession. Darn! I wish I'd been interested in all of this stuff when my grandparents where still alive! Anyway, I'd like to get it scanned an posted somewhere, for the Averitt family.
I saw an Averitt Express truck on the road yesterday in Dallas, Texas (where I live), and it made me smile.
