I have the following information in my possession--- hope it helps someone:
Tradition story: Averitts went to England from Normandy with Willaim the Conqueror in 1066, then to Scotland. In 1688 5 brothers came to America settling in Mass., N & S Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia.
Joshua Averitt b Abt 1700, one son Henry b abt 1720. Henry had a son, Joel, he was the father of Jarett, Elisha, Thomas, George, John, Sam and Peter.
Peter was born in Prince Edward Cty, Va in 1765 and died at Hartsville, Tn in 1842. Petere Averitt married Polly Grimes 9/7/1795. Peter was married 4 times. His first child was Thomas C. b in Virginia, 1796, He emigrated to Tremble Cty, Ky in 1832, died there.
Tom H. Averitt was b 1819 to Chappel Averitt. Tom married twice in Clarksville, Tn First to rebecca Ann Lemay 9/11/1846--2 children Phronia and Louis William (b 4/23/1852) Tom married Rebecca Tyre --- seven children Tom Doke, Mary, Lige, Alice, Jim and Jennie. After his second wife's death he moved to Red River Cty, Texas.. Tom died 7/7/1893.
Christopher Averitt b 1590 in Corwall, England, lived in Charles Co, Va in 1650.
One son James b Cornwall England in 1622, came to America about 1638.
James had one son Josua born in Surry Co, Va 1655.
