Charlene,
I have since found that Ephely was a man! My reason for asking is my gg grandmother's story about a Effa Ella, pronounced Effie Ellie, being named for her fathers ship, the "Effarilla". Their surname was Moore. When I found Ephely, it sounded like the phonetic of how Effie's name was pronounced. And Ephely Averitt's property had once belonged to Susannah Moore in Craven County. I really thought I was onto something. Sorry if I've caused any problems. Thanks to all who've responded. Sincerely, Joyce
