Averett Family Genealogy Forum

I have created a web site for the "Jeduthan Averett Family Association". The address of the site is www.aros.net/~everett We have all been firing off so much info to one another, that I decided we needed to start organizing and compiling it in one place. The web site seemed like the perfect place. Of course the site is under construction, so you will not see a lot of information on it right away, but I will post it all just as fast as I can. If any of you want to comment on the site or to contribute or correct any of the information on it, please contact me. There is a feedback form on the site, or you can e-mail me at everett@aros.net. I would also like to invite everyone to join the association. To do so, simply visit the site, and send your request to join in the feedback form, provided. The Jeduthan Averett for whom the site (and this new association) is named is Jeduthan Averett of Nash County, North Carolina, the father of Hardy Averett/Avery of Perry County, Alabama. As for the spelling of the surname: Averett is the spelling used in Jeduthan's will and in many other original documents. It is the most common spelling of the name over the generations. It is also sort of the "common denominator" of all the variations of our surname which incude Averett, Avery, Averitt, Everett, Everitt, Averitt, Averette, Averitte, Everitte, Averyt, and possibly others. As more information is posted on the site, I plan to use the spelling of the surname that is correct for the various branches of the family. That is, I won't standardize the spelling to Averett for the branches of the family that spell it Avery or Everett or otherwise. For Hardy and his children, I plan to use Avery/Averett, since some of Hardy's own family spelled it one way and some the other and even Hardy couldn't seem to make up his mind. For generations that follow, I plan to use whatever spelling came to be used down the lane. Thus, April David Averett/Avery's line children and on down will be spelled Avery, while Jeduthan Hardy Averett/Avery's will be spelled Averett, and on down the line, Everett, for the branch descending from Charles Averett/Everett and Hilda Marchbanks, of Springville, Utah. In naming the site for Hardy's father, rather than for Hardy, from whom MANY of us descend, I hope that we might find cousins who descend from Jeduthan's other children: Temperence, Susannah, Jesse, and Nancy.
