Sorry to be so long answering your e-mail, Sonnie. I have started working on genealogy again, finally!

I do believe that my Sarah W., who married William G. Berry, was the daughter of Zachariah Everett/Averett, because: my grandfather said that her maiden name was either Everet or Reed, and that she married an Everet or a Reed. I find a Jonathan Reed in the 1830 and a Johnathan Reed in the 1840 census--both listings seem to match for Sarah's being in the household. In addition, Jonathan Reed's estate was administered by an A. B. Everett. After finding a Sarah listed as a child of Zachariah Averett on a Kindred Konnections entry--I will tentatively assume that she was indeed his daughter, marrying first Jonathan Reed and second William G. Berry. I descend from Sarah and William's daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Mollie) Berry, who married Erastus Smith. Erastus and Mollie had nine children, only three of whom survived childhood: Jewell, Couch, and Meldon. Jewell Smith was my grandfather.

On the BLM site, I found a patent for Zachariah Everett's land, but when I sent for the Land Entry File, they couldn't find it. There was an "Outcard" in the file, dated 1888, but no clue as to who checked it out or why or where it is now.

I'm off for Santa Cruz, California. The public library there has an excellent collection on SW Virginia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and KENTUCKY. Hope to find some info there. (I travel a lot during the summer--it gets HOT in the Coachella Valley in the summer.)
