I would like to thank all of you who came to the Avent-Buchanan Family Reunion today. Also those of you who supported it by your online support. We start at 11 am at the Buckhorn United Methodist Church which was started by the family and still has many family members keeping it going. It is a lovely country church and has a large cemetery. The church was full today but I would have stood had you come. We always recognize the family members present with any comments they may have. Today the program flavor was Scottish since many of the Avent there married the Scottish born Buchanan who came up the Cape Fear River to Avent Ferry with the Flora McDonald Group. The entry of the bagpipes and drums were inspiring, had some great Scottish solos, excellent singing group. Info on the kilts etc and more fun. Had family from as far away as Colorado present. At the end of the service we followed the bagpipes across the lawn to dinner in the community building. Food and more food as well as fellowship and girls doing Scottish dances. Everyone went away happy and full. Next year will be difficult to top this one.
