Johnny,
I am on a fishing trip here but there are enough circumstances to warrant a try.My great grandfather wasWilliam Wallace Avant, b. 1843.He, William Wallace, was supposedly born in MS and his father and mother were both from TN, but these questions were often asnwered incorrectly and change from census to census as you are aware. He was in Sumner County (now Webster), MS for the 1880 census. His wife, Susan (Nee Jackson)(?), b. 1844, was from MO and her sister, Lizzie Jackson (41), single, was living with them. They had 4 sons, Nathan Elijah, b. 1868, William Robert, b. 1870, Joe Thomas, b. 1873 (my maternal grandfather)(married Emma Louise Cabaniss), and James, b. 1879. The closest I have been able to get to a William Avant in either Mississippi, Alabama, or Arkansas is in the family of Carey and Juda Avant in the 1850 census of the Saline District of Arkansas.Would you happen to have any information on this family that may be of help in my search? Thanks for any help you can offer.
