Thanks for the info....I had been told almost that same information a while back by. My information was that my line of Avans (Thomas Avans/Evans) worked on a plantation and the owner was named VAN...they worked in groups of A, B, C...ect.. and that was how the A and the VAN got put together. I have traced back to my gggrandfather Thomas Avans. I was also told he changed his name before he married the first time in 1877. I know the name changed to Evans after he married the second time in 1898. Your father-in-law wouldn't happen to be Leo Evans would it? So far the Avans in the Deerhead Cemetery I have seen no evidence they are in the same line. My line is buried in Fuller Cemetery in Dekalb, County. Thank you again for the information. Do you happen to know if there is anything written for me to research on the Avans or Van workers?
