Avalos Family Genealogy Forum

I have been doing research on the family name also. My father, Gregorio Villareal Avalos (m. Jovita Martinez, not her dad's real surname) was born in San Luis, Jalisco. A friend that was in Spain last year told me there is a statue in Toledo to an ancestor named Avalos. Doing a Google search I found a link that led to Francisco Ferrante d'Avalos and his wife Vittoria Colonna during the reign of Charles V. That was the age when Spanish families migrated to Italy. (The Borgias were originally from Spain.) The name is also very common in the Phillipines and I have always been asked if I am filipina. When I worked in a Spanish language call center for the telephone company in CA (I'm now in Washington DC), I always asked customers with the surname Avalos where their families were from. The 2 places mentioned in Mexico were always Jalisco (Guadalajara) and Michoacan. I believe the family roots are in Spain and from there the family spread out to the New World.
Here's the link for anyone interested in learning about F. Ferrante d'Avalos:
