I have an Auxier family genealogy book an this is what it has about Bald-headed Mike.
Michael "Bald Headed Mike" Auxier III b 1752-1761
married abt 1790 Jean Lovebathy
d aft 1845 buried in Lewis Co, KY
This is an account by Agnes Auxier.Michael was stalking a deer near Ft. Blackmore, VA when he was surpised by an indian and knocked senseless. He was scalped but the wounds were not fatal. After tat he always wore a hat.
A handwritten narrative found in the Douglas Auxier Galbraith Research notes describes the scalping as taken place during a battle with indians in Aug 1777 near North Fork of the Holston river. He was with Col Campbell protecting the western border of Virginia from savages. This version is also in some pension papers in the National Archive.
The book goes into more detail about Mike III, but that is the basics about the scalping.
