Bill Autrey

Old Fort - Bill Autrey, 77, of Old Fort, passed away, Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at his home, after a long battle with cancer. Born May 26, 1929, in McDowell County, he was a son of the late Harvey Autrey and Lennie Autrey. Mr. Autrey was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict, and was a retired maintenance worker from Ethan Allen.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Jordan Autrey, of the home; two sons, Billy Autrey, of Marion, and Jimmy Autrey and wife, Arlene, of Swannanoa; four daughters, Betty Ricker and husband, Fred, of Mars Hill, Joyce Clark and husband, Dwayne, and Patricia Hollifield and husband, Ronald, all of Marion, and Linda Elliott, of Burnsville; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral for Mr. Autrey will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Old Fort, with the Revs. Chris Elliott and Don Laws officiating.

Interment will follow at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kirksey Funeral Home, Old Fort.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Autrey's memory to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park Building 1, Asheville, NC 28801.
