Mr. Michael C. Hardy,

I am the great great great grandson of John Patton Autrey who was a seargent in the 58th and was shot in one of his testicules which he eventually lost, recovered in a hospital in Georgia and then made his way back to South Toe to find that his wife (Margerat Burnett) had run off with a younger man (George Waycaster) to Tenn. and had a son (Arron Waycaster) leaving the rest of her children starving. I had a hard time finding out what happend to him after 1870 but then found him living with a niese in 1910 at 75 yrs. I do not know his death date and I am still looking through headstone applications at the Archives in Washington DC to find out who applied for his head stone and when. He is buried in the Autrey cemetery in South Toe. Also, there is a new museum in Burnsville, NC. which houses a rifle used by him during the Civil War and copies of the Muster Rolls showing that he was in attendence at certain dates and times.
I have alot of information about the family if you are interested.

William Paul Autrey
