I have been working on this family for some time - I am descended from John and Elizabeth through their son Joseph P., who married Emmaline McHone - and have found nothing concrete as to his parentage.

While Absalom is old enough that he could be John's grandfather, it is not likely he was John's father. There has been speculation that John's parents are John AUTREY and Betsy RORIE, but I haven't seen proof of that either.
