If you had taken some time to read some of the previous posting you would know that the Austria that these folks came from ceased to exist in 1920.
There was a war, that many Canadians fought in by the way, that ended with the defeat of Germany and Austria-Hungary. Austria was stripped of 3/4 of it's territory. The remainder was divided up among 6 or 8 nearby countries.
To get records you need to know where the homeland of these folks is today.
The first thing you and we must know is the ethnicity of this family. What language did they speak? If they spoke Croatian (an Austrian monority) it is not likely they came from Ukraine (another Austrianminority) or vice versa.
By the way, "lopata" means shovel in abunch of Slavic languages.
