Sorry. I didn't read your posting carefully and didn't notice the wife came from Chrast and not John.
There is the strong possibility that the couple originated from the same general area. Slovaks spoke dozens of dialects so it was easy to tell who was from your county and who was not.
In a case like this the logical step is to look for relatives and friends who also settled in Youngstown to discover where they came from.
There was a Slovak census for Youngstown and Mahoning County in 1922 that might be of help. It was on-line at one time but I can't find it.
