Joyce, something has me a bit puzzled:In another posting, you said that UPPER AUSTRIA (in German: Oberösterreich; capital: LINZ) was basically home to your ancestors. But not a single one of the towns you name is located in Upper Austria!Leoben, Feldbach, Edelsbach, Steinbüchel, Kaag, St. Margarethen an der Raab, Sulz, Gleisdorf -- every single one of these towns is located in STYRIA (in German: Steiermark; capital: GRAZ).So when it comes to your ancestors, just where does Upper Austria fit in?
You also said that you don't know if any of your ancestors ever lived in LOWER AUSTRIA (in German: Niederösterreich).Well, according to what you've posted, a number of the people you mention lived in VIENNA, and Vienna was located in Lower Austria! In fact, Vienna was Lower Austria's capital until 1922, when it was separated from Lower Austria and became an Austrian state in its own right.(Lower Austria's capital today is the city of ST. PÖLTEN.)
The one and only place in Styria that I know of that at all resembles "Hemfeldt" is the village of HAINFELD -- called officially in full Hainfeld bei Fürstenfeld -- which is today part of the town of GROSSWILFERSDORF, located in the District (in German: Bezirk) of FÜRSTENFELD, which is the next "Bezirk" north of Bezirk Feldbach in eastern Styria.Grosswilfersdorf (or if written with the German character "scharfes S", Großwilfersdorf) is today a town of about 1400 people, of whom about 200 live in Hainfeld.I of course cannot say with certainty that Hainfeld is what is meant by "Hemfeldt", but it is the only place in Styria that bears any resemblance at all to "Hemfeldt".
You say that in 1918 and 1919, Mitzi (married name Walke) was living in Vienna. You then say that when each of her parents died, the obituaries indicated that she wss living in this "Hemfeldt".When was that exactly? That is, when did each of her parents die?
Robert
