Firman family

I am from Ukraine, Crimea, Yalta . I want to find out how the Firmans came to the Western Ukraine. My grand father Peter Firman was a steward of Polish magnate Kasavitski’s estate in Kalitinka in Vinnitsa region. I wish to clear up from what area were the Firmans originally. Were they Jews or German? My Dad supposed they came to Ukraine from Austria at Austria-Hungarian Empire time and were mainly military men. The matter is that during the Russian and Soviet Empires, especially the time of the 2 World War the Achieves have been destroyed and absolutely nothing can be found. I asked the Archives in Vinnitsa several times and they replied they didn’t have any registration at all, even about my grandmother who was partially Ukrainian and partially Bulgarian.
Tatiana.
