Edward, if you do believe that your John was born in Canada, then I'll add this info here:

1900 US Census
Grayling, Crawford Co., Michigan

Ecker, John H., Head, b. June 1870, aged 29, married, 9 years, b. Canada, father b. Pennsylvania, mother b. Michigan, immigrated 1883, labourer, woods
Ecker, Bell A., Wife, b. March 1876, aged 24, married, 9 years, 3 children born/living, b. Michigan, parents b. Poland (German)
Ecker, Elmer A., Son, b. March 1893, aged 7, single, b. Michigan
Ecker, Florence E., Daughter, b. March 1896, aged 4, b. Michigan
Ecker, Marshall, Son, b .October 1899, aged 8 months, b. Michigan

From the Michigan Marriages Database at familysearch.org, here is their marriage, altho' you'll see that John's age is quite different, and he may have been older than he let on in the 1900 census:

John H. Ecker, aged 33 (30 written above), b. Canada, of Saginaw, laborer, son of John & Adela, married Bell Spanyock, aged 17, b. Bridgeport, of same, daughter of John & Adela (ditto marks used from line above -- may be inaccurate); 16 August 1891 at Taymouth; witnesses: Louis Ecker of Taymouth & Mary Sharp of Saginaw.

This is likely John's family in the 1881 Canadian Census:

Source Information:
Census Place Moulton, Monck, Ontario
Family History Library Film 1375890
NA Film Number C-13254
District 144
Sub-district C
Division 2
Page Number 29
Household Number 139

Note: Monck was only a census district. Moulton Township was in Haldimand County in the Niagara area of southern Ontario. I would also take the reference to "Dutch" with a grain of salt -- they were Germans, likely from a group of Pennsylvania Deutsch (known by many as Pennsylvania Dutch).
