Michael O'Neil and Mary O'Brien Ballarat Dunnstown
Hi,
I have just recently found one of our Missing O'Neill's thatcame on the Epaminondas from Liverpool 14th April / Plymouth 30th April 1852, arriving at Port Adelaide 2 August 1852 - with the following passengers:
O'Neill John 38 Ploughman - Rosroe, co. Clare (Rosroe is a little area within Sixmilebridge Co Clare Ireland.) Bridget 36 Michael 17 Farm Servant Mary 16 Domestic Servant Ann 14 Dairymaid Thomas 12 Patrick 6 John 2
The Patrick O'Neill age 6 is my husband's Great Grandfather and he had his family in South Australia.
We also know that Anne was in the Adelaide destitute asylum (receiving a
meal) and a note to say living with cousins in Gouger Street Adelaide.
Now my big breakthrough came thanks to Ancestry now having the Victoria BDM's onlineI discovered that Michael O'Neill parents John O'Neill and Bridget McNamara married in Richmond in Melbourne, Victoria in 1856 to Mary O'Brien.
They had the following children
John O'Neilbrn Richmond, 1857 - died Ballarat 1890,Charles Oneil
Warracknabeal 1865,Bridget O'Neil 1866Cannot find birth but she is
mentioned on Michaels death certificate as alive in 1910,James O'Neill
brn Ballarat 1868 (This James in not the James William O'Neill born Ballarat East in 1868 as on ancestry as I have followed that lead and his mother is
Mary Morgan.Michael O'Neil also born Ballarat East 1868 - death 8 months
later in 1869,Margaret O'Neil born Bungaree 1869,Edward(Edmond)
O'Neill Born Warracknabeal 1870. This may be his death in 1954,Mary
O'Neill 1884 age 26 when her father died in 1910 (she is mentioned as age 26 but I cannot find her birth registration.
On Michaels death certificate there is only mention of the following children (the rest I found on Vic BDM's)John deceased Bridget 44 Charles 40 Edmond 30 Mary 26 The death is notified by a Gladys Hilliam(s) or William(s). a granddaughter.
Michael O'Neill died in Dunnstown which is very near Ballarat.
With that information if any of the above family rings a bell please email me.
From the original O'Neill's who came to South Australia in 1852 we cannot find
Parents John and Bridget (nee McNamara) O'Neill - Bridget may have died in
1853 in Clanfergal in South Aust.

We had always concentrated our search in South Australia as that is where Patrick O'Neill who married Annie Dougherty in Clare in SA turned up in 1872 (marriage date).
We were very surprised to find one of the original O'Neill's in Victoria by 1856 (they arrived in SA in 1852).
Does anyone know of Michael and Mary O'Brien's family who were around Ballarat and Bungaree or by any chance any of the original missing O'Neill's (sometimes spelled O'Neil) Regards Gay O'Neill in Western Australia
