I see the death of a sister Margaret at Maffra in 1940, but no sign of Jean. I saw a possible marriage, but at death the parents were incorrect, so another Jean.
If seems very unlikely a death would not be registered in 1940, but I do see a Jean Gray on the electoral Roll 1936! It was wartime - was there anything different with the indexes for those years?
1936 Gippsland Maffra
Gray Jean Briagolong, home duties
Gray Margaret, jun Briagolong home duties
1914 Gippsland Maffra
Gray Henry Briagolong grazier
Gray Jean briagolong home duties
Gray Margaret Briagolong home duties
Gray Margaret jun Briagolong home duties
Any chance she could have gone interstate/overseas after her sister died?
You could perhaps try for later electoral rolls & see when she disappeared from same
