William MULLIN at Newstead, Victoria 1857 to ????
My great-great-grandfather was a William Mullin who I believe was a Government Surveyor working for the Victoria Government around 1857. At that time he was working in the Newstead area near Maryborough & Avoca. William came from either Cork or Belfast in Ireland and would have been born ~ 1810. William married a Mary nee PATTERSON in Ireland during the early 1830s. I do believe from family chatter that William may have, at one stage also become a Baptist Clergyman althogh I have no evidence for this. The young family came out Australia sometime between 1847 & 1852 but I am unaware of their port of destination. In any case the children eventually surface in various Victorian records. Strangely though, apart from the 1857 Electoral Roll record I have no other specific information about William MULLIN! They had the following children: Matilda Jane, born ~ 1834, Maria born ~ 1841 and John born in Liverpool England ~ 1846. Matilda Jane married an Alexander LAMBERT in East Melbourne, Victoria in 1852. Maria married to a Henry BOARDMAN at Ballaarat, Victoria in 1861, then after Henry's death in 1866 she later married a John Walter TASKER in Collingwood in 1888 and whilst brother John MULLIN married a Helen DOUGLAS at Ballaarat in 1871. I am unsure as to when or indeed where Mary MULLUN (nee Patterson) died or whether William stayed with her or perhaps travelled long distances & durations for work. I also believe William MULLIN was fairly senior in the department at this time (1857). Can anyone help me with some details about William MULLIN?? Thank you in anticipation. Please write very soon as I am keen to understand this somewhat mystery portion of my ancestry! Cheers, Rob Bell, Essendon, Victoria, Australia. Email: [email protected].
