Seeking contact with researchers of the large Tasmanian family which was established by Charles BEST who was born 4 June 1790 in Beeding, Sussex, England and died on 3 February 1868 near Hagley, Tasmania. His parents were Charles BEST (1757-1818) - Elizabeth LILLYWHITE (1761-1835)

Spouse:       Hannah (Anne) RUSSELL
Marriage Date:       7 October 1809
Marriage Place:       Hamsey, Sussex, England

Charles arrived in Van Diemans Land, with his wife & family on the sailing ship Orelia on the 8th May 1829. He was in charge of Southdown sheep for the Cressy Company and his brother was in charge of Devon cattle for the same company.

After leaving service with the Cressy Company, Charles worked as Overseer at Penquite a property owned by Mr Laurence for some years. Then he bought the property "Vermont", in the Launceston District, and remained on it until failing health forced him to retire. He then moved to his son John's residence where he died in 1868.
