Northern Tasmanian Families 1829+
Seeking contact with other reserachers with interests in the following families: DOBSON, RICHARDSON, STRETTON, MITCHELL,JONES, EDWARDS, FINNERTY, GILLINGHAN,McGINTY, McLEAN, COOPER,LONG,BEST,SMITH, WILLIAMS andLIDDELL. These are my GG Grandparents who al (bar 2) arrived in Northern Tasmania between 1829 and 1842. Their details are:
William DOBSON. Baptism 20 May 1817 in Airmyn, Yorkshire, England. Died 24 Feb 1885 in Glenore, Hagley, Tasmania. Buried in Methodist Church, Hagley, Tasmania. Occupation Farmer, Tobacconist. Religion Wesleyn Methodist. He married Anne RICHARDSON, About Mar 1840 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England.
Anne RICHARDSON. Baptism 26 Apr 1818 in Snaith, Yorkshire, England. Died 18 Jun 1895 in Glenore, Hagley, Tasmania. Buried in Methodist Church, Hagley, Tasmania.
Joseph STRETTON. Born Jul 1821 in Birmingham, England. Died 22 Oct 1889 in Westbury, Tasmania. Occupation Carpenter, Farmer. Ref Number m. 37/895d. 35/1385.He married Jane Anne MITCHELL, 21 Jul 1857 in Myrtle Grove, Deloraine, Tasmania. After his marriage to Jane Anne they moved to Fairville, a farm near Hagley.
Jane Anne MITCHELL. Born 27 Dec 1835 in Norfolk Plains, Tasmania. Died 9 Nov 1901 in Flowerdale, Tasmania. Ref Number m. 37/895.
Robert JONES. Born About 1824. He married Margaret EDWARDS, 28 Jun 1854 in Parish of Llanllechid, County Carnarvon, Nth. Wales.
Margaret EDWARDS. Born About 1824. Examiner death Notices 23/3/1906 - On the 23rd of March at Everton, Scotsdale Margaret the beloved wife of Robert Jones Snr. native of Wales aged 76 years.
Michael FINNERTY. Born About 1825 in Ireland. Died 12 Sep 1891 in Launceston, Tasmania. Occupation Laborer, Farmer. Ref Number d. 35/285.
Bridget GILLINGHAN. Born About 1828 in Limerick, Ireland. Died 19 Dec 1911 in Rosedale, Victoria. Buried 30 Dec 1911 in Rosedale, Victoria. Ref Number m. 37/1252. Circular Head Chronicle, dated 9/1/1912: Forest - Another old resident in the person of Mrs Finnerty passed away at Rosedale, Vic. last week, to where she has only recently gone from here. Mrs Finnerty was 75 years of age and was a resident of Forest for 41 Years.
Alexander McGINTY. Born About 1825 possible in Glassgow, Scotland. Died 23 Jun 1907 in "In or about", Armstrongs Diggings, Ararat, Victoria. Buried 26 Jun 1907 in Great Western, Victoria. Occupation Miner, Labourer. Ref Number d. 890. He was buried at Great Western and the witness to the burial was a Charles F Best. It appears he married Margaret McLEAN, 1853 in Sandhurst, Victoria.
Margaret McLEAN. Possibly born circa 1826 (could be 1823) in Liverpool, England. Died 13 Jun 1873 in Ararat Hospital, Victoria. Buried 1873 in Great Western, Victoria. Ref Number d. 3045. Margaret died at age 47 of Hepatitis, on her death certificate it stated that she was a resident of Victoria for 24 years.It also stated that she married at age 27 at Sandhurst. Her children are listed as Charlotte, aged 17, Alexander aged 15, Neile aged 12. Therefore she would have arrived in victoria around 1849 and the marriage date would be 1853. Alexander's birth certificate states "six living", and that the marriage was in Hobart in 1943.
Henry COOPER. Born 24 Feb 1837 in Alveston, Warwickshire, England. Died 24 Oct 1891 in Beulah, Tasmania. Occupation Farmer, Speculator & Post Master 1890/91 Lowe's Bridge. Religion Baptist. The family residence was at Lowe's Bridge, Sheffield District in Northern Tasmania. Medical: Inquest into Henry's death held on 26 October 1891 at East's Hotel, Railton before Coroner Aikenhead. Henry was found dead in the Caroline Creek in the vicinity of Badger Hills on the previous Sunday. The inquest accepted Dr Stewart's deposition that he had died from acute congestion of the lungs and failure of the heart, accelerated by exposure. He married Emma Elizabeth LONG, 15 Feb 1858 in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England.
Emma Elizabeth LONG. Born 9 Nov 1835 in Bampton, Oxon, England. Baptism in Coates Baptist Chapel, Gloucestershire, England. Died 22 May 1909 in East Devonport, Tasmania. Buried in East Devonport, Tasmania. Occupation Post Mistress Lowe's Bridge 1892/94. Religion Baptist.The Examiner, Monday 24 May 1909 (page 5) - Mrs Cooper, a resident of East Devonport, died very suddenly at her son-in-law's residence in Cross Street, on Saturday evening. She was apparently in her usual health half an hour before. Death is supposed to be due to heart failure. She was aged 72 years.
John BEST. Born 8 Dec 1819 in Lewes, Sussex, England. Died 21 Jul 1884 in Sheffield, Tasmania. Buried in Old Sheffield Cemetery, Tasmania. Occupation Carpenter, Farmer. Ref Number m1. 37/416m2. 37/49d. 35/673. First married Mary Taylor performed by Rev Butters, Wesleyan Minister. Second married Amelia Smith performed by Rev Lowe a Methodist Minister at the Wesleyan Chapel in Westbury. The witnesses were Roddan H Douglas, Samuel Montgomery and Annie Best.
Amelia SMITH. Born 6 Apr 1840 in Launceston, Tasmania. Died 11 Feb 1895 in Lower Barrington, Tasmania. Buried in Old Sheffield Cemetery, Tasmania. Ref Number m. 37/49d. 35/415.
John WILLIAMS. Born 25 Dec 1824 in Malt, Flintshire, Wales. Baptism 5 Jun 1825 in Malt, Flintshire, Wales. Died 1913 in The Nook. Buried in Sheffield Cemetery, Tasmania. Occupation Overseer of Northdown; Farmer.John & his brother Evan embarked for Van Diemans Land in April 1855, from Liverpool on the Marco Polo,arrived in Melbourne and then sailed to Launceston on the Black Swan on 30th June 1855. Johnwas brought out by theThomas family of Northdown and worked for them as an overseer for their potato growing operation. He also sharefarmed at Northdown and became well known as a judge of Draught Horses and a successful competitor in plowing matches. He married Elizabeth LIDDELL, 24 Mar 1858 in Northdown, Port Sorrell, Tasmania.
Elizabeth LIDDELL. Born 22 Nov 1835 in Paisley Abbey, Scotland. Died 1926 in Wynyard, Tasmania. Buried in Old Wynyard Cemetery, Tasmania.
