The town of Merino you refer to is in Victoria not the one in SA. I also have an ancestor that lived in Merino/Dwyers Creek area. Merino was a part of the area proclaimed as the Glenelg Shire in 1864. Merino is in the western part of Victoria not all that far from Hamilton.

Gordon or someone that has victorian records should be able to help with your request.
