Australia: South Australia
I would like news of her parents and origins, please. Can any one help. What I have is this:- Margaretta Bowden (my grtgrandmother) was born 06 August, 1878, Cornwall, Gt Britain; emigrated to South Australia and worked as a Nanny for the Tatchell Family at Finniss, Sth Australia, until her marriage to William Jones, 27 June, 1895, at the Church of the Nativity, Finniss, Sth Australia. They were the first couple married at that church and were presented with a black, leather-bound KJV Bible, which became the Family Bible, into which Margaretta wrote the dates of her children's births and other family details. Her wedding certificate shows her name as Bowden-Tachell.
Maggie and William (Bill / 'Jonesy') lived at Third Creek, Magill on the Violet Farm and raised six children. The farm was a small, mixed farm with dairy cattle and an orchard that grew apples, pears, plums, cherries and cut flowers. Jonesy's specialty was raising violets for the Adelaide cut flower market. He gathered a wide collection of Violet varieties and grew them on the terraced slopes of the farm, which was open to visitors during the flower season. There were two violet farms in close vacinity and "Sharabangs" loaded with people from Adelaide arrived on weekends to buy and pick violets. Maggie and her daughters ran a devonshire tea shop from the farm house.
Margaretta was blinded by a cow charge, in 1924, at age 46 yrs. Widowed in 1929, she lived with her daughter Jane and her family until her death in 1957.
