Fiona,
I have a Laurence Patterson who in 1883 married Catherine Murray in Rockhampton, they had a number of children the eldest son being Christened Thomas George Laurence, and another son called Charles William Harry, daughters Lillian Gertrude Clara and Beatrice Rose. on the 1883 marriage certificate he put his age 37 (born 1846?) and birthplace Gottland Sweden. But he has very English (or Irish) sounding parents William Patterson a stonemason and Mary Alster. Laurence died in 1903 and is buried in Rockhampton North Cemetery (Roman Catholic section).
The true origins of this Laurence is a bit clouded prior to 1883 at this stage.
Do you think there is a connection somewhere?
regards
Bob Campbell
