Thank you for the response, Den. Unfortunately all I know is what an elderly uncle recalls: my grandmother spent a lot of her childhood on the O'Brien property, Tinowon.
My grandmother's mother was Sarah Jane O'Brien who married John Rowland Byrnes so I am guessing that the O'Briens were related to the mother in some way. It is rumoured that my grandparents went to Charleville from Roma around the 1880s.
The possibility of a Father O'Brien is certainly real because the family were "good Irish Catholics".
It is like trying to row through treacle, and because all the "knowing" members of the family have died it is difficult to know where to go from here. Keep in touch if you think we can compare notes or drag something out of any information you may have.
