Hi Robin,
I am very distantly related to James Bennett and Jane Brock. My direct ancestor is James Bennett's brother John.
James's parents were James Bennett and Isabella Walker. James married Jane Brock on 11 November 1864 in Muiravonside Parish in Stirlingshire, Scotland. His sister Mary married Jane Brocks brother John Brock (brother and sister marry brother and sister). Jane Brocks parents were William Brock and Ann Malcolm also from Stirlingshire in Scotland. I know from family that James and Jane definately emigrated to Australia so I suspect we're talking about the same people.
James's mother Isabella died in 1857 and his father gave his daughter Janet away to a couple who were emigrating to Canada. His father James had a hard life, he was a coal miner in Blackbraes Colliery and worked until he was 77 years old, he died at 82 outliving two wives and five of his fifteen children.
Hope this is of some use to you.
Fiona McSkimming
