Grigson Smith Kyte mystery

I have found reference in historical online indexes to the children of Harry Grigson and Elizabeth Ann(ie) Kyte(Kite).
Harry, Annie, William and Mabel.
While searching for their marriage reference, I found a marriage listing for Elizabeth Ann Kite to Martin Smith and subsequently found children with the same first names: Harry, Annie, Williams and Mabel but with Surname of Smith and no father nominated on the index.
Can anyone tell me why the two lots of records for the children have the same reference numbers? References for all 4 children are identical on both sets of online records. I am fairly new to this and am hoping someone can help me clarify what this means. My first thoughts are that Harry Grigson (snr) was using an alias and perhaps they weren't married but now I am not so sure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
