McLaughlin/McLachlan mystery son - looking for a male McLaughlin/McLachlan mentioned on the death certificate of Jessie McLaughlin who died, Wilcannia, 4/4/1876 aged 37.
Jessie Simpson married Cornelius McLaughlin (widower) in Wentworth 29/7/1861. She had at least one illegitimate child by then, her daughter Annie McTavish (b 1861). Cornelius had been married in Ireland, 1853, to a Mary McCallion. Did he have a son with Mary? Cornelius appears to have gone to NZ six months after marrying Jessie and not returned to her. Did he leave a son with her?
When Jessie died in 1876 at Wilcannia, her death cert has her as the mother of one male, one female child living. The daughter is Annie b 1861 (my great-grandmother) but there is no record of a birth of a son to her. Did she raise Cornelius's son? Following Irish/Scottish naming patterns, the boy may well be called James, John or Cornelius. Any info welcome - looking for descendants of this son or any McLachlan/McLaughlin links around the Murray-Darling or possibly near Bourke.
