Aidan, There are quite a few convict records online if you try a google search including Irish transportation database and a site in queensland where you can search for convicts
plus one for Irish convicts to NSW
I have checked them all and also checked tasmanian convicts and the only Bernard Callaghan arrived in 1837 and much too late to be your one
You could also check the Colonial Secretarys Index
Maybe your Bernard got a pardon or was sent to American instead
What makes you think he came to Australia?
