Thanks so much for the info on Charlotte.I now find that there were THREE Jones sisters in Australia: Charlotte, Jane, and Mary.I've been mixing up some of their children and spouses and am now trying to untangle them.
This is why everything is so confused:Shortly before my aunt died, she gave me copies of two letters written around 1921 by a cousin in Australia telling about her sister and her children and giving addresses for the two sisters with their married surnames – Dalziel and Grandin plus some initials that were hard to read. The letters had the names of the Grandin offspring and a little informationabout where they lived or occupations. My aunt jotted down a few hints and said that the letters were from my great grandmother’s sister’s children but did not know which great grandmother – a Jones or an Evans, common Welsh names used by thousands. She also suggested that I look for a Mary Hughes.
So I began the search without knowing the first names or forenames of the ancestors I was looking for. To complicate matters, most of the people I’ve tracked down have married multiple times. Thus their marriage records didn't fit till I'd found all of the spouses.
With the help of many patient and generous Australians, I’ve succeeded in tracking down a oousin who descended from one of the children mentioned in the letter. But she knows little about her ancestors. So I’m still trying to be sure I have the right family in Wales and appropriate people in Australia. The best leads I have on which Jones family wedescend from in Wales are the Australian relatives.
The work you've been doing is a GREAT help. I cannot express how much I’ve appreciate all of your work. I need a little more time to untangle the sisters and I'll get back to you.
