Hi David
The limited info I have about the John Kelly I am after has me looking at a few possible families. The reason I suspect Patrick Kelly of Morphetvale as a parent is that there was an article in the newspaper regarding two Kelly children from Morphetvale being referred to the Destitute Board a month before my gggf applied for a child named Kelly. It does not state specifically if the father is dead or not but says he or the children were in destitute circumstances. From the archives I have that the John Kelly my gggf looked after the father was dead and the mother was in the Lunatic Asylum.

I found an obituary of Patrick Edward Kelly died April 1928 says his father was youngest son of Patrick Kelly of Morphett Vale. That obituary also says P E Kelly was orphaned at 3 years old. It does not mention a mother so cannot figure that out. That obituary also says P E Kelly had brothers John living in NSW and James of Magill that were still alive at the time.

The John Kelly of Broken Hill's father was John Kelly so was not Patrick's son as I had hoped but if he was born around 1850 then I cannot completely rule him out yet as he would be the age I am after.

Sorry this is a bit long but thanks for any help.
