George Hewitt

I am looking for any available information on George Hewitt who was supposedly born in Sydney New South Wales, Australia and who migrated to the United States and participated in the American Civil War. He enlisted for a period of 3 years as a Private and saw service in the U.S. Army General Services. He was reportedly killed accidently during the war, due to an accidental death from wounds received. He may have also deserted in June 1861 from Fort Snelling.
Any help with information on him, his birth, family, life and death would be greatly appreciate. jamesmgray@bigpond.com
