The 'informant' was the mother Sophy, the father is stated as Thomas SMITH, 35, carter, of Launceston Tas.

Thomas was born c1864 and his older brother John was born c1861 by my reckoning. They both died within months of each other in 1911 in Victoria.

John's offspring are found in Tasmania. He married in 1883 Longford, and had 5 or 6 children in Tassie.

We wonder whether the Tasmanian birth certificates from the period 1885-95 might hold any detail of the fathers origin?
