I have death details for both George Renshaw & Mary Clarke in Greenock & marriage confirmation between George & Mary Ann Heaver. The Heaver's were listed on passenger arrivals in Adelaide as they paid to come here.
This article in "The Register" is what links George Renshaw to his mother Mary Clarke & the Barque Macedon. The article incorrectly spells the ships names as Macedonia, but it was in fact The Macedon which made 2 trips from England to Australia.
25 Oct 1901, "The Register", Adelaide.
A PLUCKY NONAGENARIAN.
"References are frequently made to the hardiness of the pioneer colonists, but seldom has a better demonstration been given than one which has been brought under our notice.
Mrs. Clark, aged 95 years, arrived in South Australia on the ship Macedonia 51 years ago. Her residence is now in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, and she is now on a visit to her son, Mr. George Renshaw, of Greenock. She left Wagga Wagga an Thursday last at 4 a.m., and after travelling by rail throughout the day and night arrived at Adelaide at 10 a.m. on Friday. The same day the brave old lady continued her railway journey to Freeling, and proceeded thence by coach to Greenock. On arrival at her destination she declared that she was none the worse for her wearisome journey. Mrs. Clark has been married twice, and survives both of her husbands."
Neither appears on the passenger list for the Macedon and this is not uncommon. At that time, Britain was getting rid of it's "unwanted"... the poor, young widows etc and it was common that as a ship was leaving for Australia, residents of workhouses were rounded up literally in the middle of the night & placed in empty spaces in the cargo holds of the ships. Their names were never included on passenger lists.
The info I'm after are birth & death details of Mary Clarke's 2 husbands & their ancestry as this is where I've come to a standstill. I have all the info of George Renshaw & Mary Ann Heaver's descendents.
