I am having a seniors moment and can't remember the name of a book.
It was published in the 1800's and people could buy a place in it, and if they didn't want someone in the book they could buy bribe the people not to include that name - yes I am serious.
In a way it was like a census, it had peoples names, where they lived and people could pay more to have a large amount of information about themselves in it. It was a very large book. I don't know if there was one or two volumes.
I hope someone knows what I'm talking about.
Thanks in advance.
